School 2011

I have noticed that study halls are silent. Students should be able to have a side of the room to whisper. When someone needs help they can not talk to ask for help? This is a problem and should be faced. Each study hall should be split in half and one side should have a talking side so we can ask for help. Today I realized I could not ask someone what the homework was to even do something in study hall. They should also start to check people on the computer. Students should not be able to go onto google and look up random images. This should be a time to do school work. Yes, I am on the computer on Blogger.com which should be a shame that I can get away with a long blog in the middle of study hall. This is a problem our school faces.

  1. You make a very good point. You should try and do something about it. You should mention it to the president of student council. Start a petition. I'm sure there are lots of students in your school that feel the same way as you do. Stand up in what you believe in.

  2. I've blogged in school too.

Being the President of the Student Body, I did reflect my voice regarding study halls resembling prisons with some teachers, and now some teachers allow students to listen to iPods. On the issue of teachers not letting you work with one another- that's a different thing and we would have to talk it out with the specific teacher.

Now regarding the "splitting", we all know this will get out of control. Students who WANT to work with eachother will only be a minority compared to the rest who will be talking about what they did on break. HOWEVER, teachers should be able to allow students work with eachother at a whisper, unless proven to get out of control.

  3. They will never split a study period, and teachers know that their is no child that will sit still and be quiet, when they try it gets louder, study periods are for studying, not socializing. It is a place for you to do your homework, classwork, or I believe you should be able to work on the computer no matter what you are doing on it, it is a study period not class, not anything to do with anything. So do not feel bad about blogging while in a study period and if you are among the ones who can ask quietly and not get loud you should be able to keep it at a whisper, there are just those who do not listen and who can't be quiet so we as teachers need the "good" students to be just that, and to set an example for those students who can't be quiet.

  4. also it isn't a problem with the school, it is the fact that YOU think it should be YOUR way or NOWAY~you are spoiled. You need help. You need responsibility. You need a job so you can make money to get the things you want, but untill you are out on your own you will never know, you will find out the hard way, life isn't easy.

  5. Anonymous- The teacher makes it sooo silent that it is impossible to make a noise without getting in trouble. I am not sure if both anonymous were the same person but this is not a selfish remark. I can get feedback on everyone who agree. I have talked to many students and I am most definitely not the only student complaining. If you can read the other comments my school's student body president has referred study halls as "I did reflect my voice regarding study halls resembling prisons with some teachers".

Also I am too young to be working a part-time job. 13 is too young for my school to be giving out working permits. This is no way of showing I am spoiled. This is also my opinion. There is a difference between I want it that way now and my opinion. I did not state actions needed to be taken right away before I call the police or something major.

Another thing is there are 2 computers in a classroom with 25 students. People were googling "fluffy Kittens" on google. Someone else I knew in that class needed that computer for class work. There is not a curriculum with fluffy kitten assignments. We do not even have a essay on our favorite animal so nothing that you have said was related to the situation I was put in.

  6. You go girl! Sounds to me like you are one level headed young lady. As for who ever Anonymous is; sounds like she has it in for you and needs to grow up. For a 13 year old you seem to be very mature, wise, and grounded. Love your outlook on life.

  7. madie, you sound like a very mature and aware young girl. it is sad that anonymous has so much hatred in him/herself. i have seen some of the other posts and it seems obvious that they are written by the same person. i hope that person will never be responsible for a family or god forbid have kids. keep up your blog, it's refreshing to see a mature outlook from a teen. keep at it.
